Darwin Day- Who was Charles Darwin ?

Charles Darwin, in full Charles Robert Darwin, was born on February 12, 1809, near Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, whose natural selection theory became the foundation of modern evolutionary studies. He was best known for his contributions to evolutionary biology. His father, a doctor, had high hopes that his son would earn a medical degree at Edinburgh University in Scotland, where he enrolled at the age of sixteen. It turned out that Darwin was more interested in natural history than medicine—it was said that the sight of blood made him sick to his stomach. While he continued his studies in theology at Cambridge, it was his focus on natural history that became his passion.

Darwin’s analysis of the plants and animals he gathered led him to question how species form and change over time. Darwin assisted and led multiple studies aboard the ship, focusing on plants, animals, and the natural Earth; a few years after the voyage, he published his first major work on his findings, entitled Zoology of the Beagle.
In 1831, Darwin embarked on a voyage aboard a ship of the British Royal Navy, the HMS Beagle, employed as a naturalist. Darwin spent much of the trip on land collecting samples of plants, animals, rocks, and fossils. He explored regions in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and remote islands such as the Galápagos. He then uses to pack all his specimens and use to send them back to England aboard other vessels.

Darwin did not invent anything but he discovered a lot as a scientist and naturalist and, as an author, he impacted science and the way we think about our world. He developed and proposed a theory about evolution. His theory has had far-reaching effects on science and the way we understand life. He is centrally important in the development of scientific and humanist ideas because he first made people aware of their place in the evolutionary process when the most powerful and intelligent form of life discovered how humanity had evolved.

Later at the age of 73 Darwin died at his family home, Down House, in London, on April 19, 1882. He was buried at Westminster Abbey.
