What is Sustainable energy:

Sustainable energy is a form of energy that meets our today’s demand of energy without putting them in danger of getting expired or depleted and can be used over and over again. Sustainable energy does not cause any harm to the environment and is available widely free of cost.

Sustainable energy should be widely encouraged as it does not cause any harm to the environment and is available widely free of cost.

It’s called sustainable energy because it can sustain us for the long term.

The most popular renewable energy sources currently are:

  1. Solar energy.
  2. Wind energy.
  3. Hydro energy.
  4. Tidal energy.
  5. Geothermal energy.
  6. Biomass energy.

Solar Energy : Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the sun that is harnessed using a range of technologies such as Solar power to generate electricity , solar thermal energy including solar water heating etc. The large magnitude of solar energy available makes it a highly appealing source of electricity . Ex solar cooker, solar panel etc.

Wind Energy: Wind energy or wind power describes the process by which wind is used to generate electricity. Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical power. Mechanical power can be utilized for specific tasks such as pumping water.

Hydro energy : Hydroelectric energy, also called hydroelectric power or hydroelectricity, is a form of energy that harnesses the power of water in motion—such as water flowing over a waterfall—to generate electricity. Advantages of hydroelectric energy

  3. Reliable
  4. Safe

Tidal energy : Tidal energy is renewable energy powered by the natural rise and fall of ocean tides and currents. Some of these technologies include turbines and paddles.

Geothermal energy : It is the heat within the earth. The word geothermal comes from the greek word GEO (Earth) and THERME ( heat) Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source because heat is continuously produced inside the earth. People use geothermal heat to heat buildings and generate electricity.

Biomass energy: Biomass contains stored chemical energy from the sun . Plants produce biomass directly for heat or converted to renewable liquid and gaseous fuels through various processes. The most common biomass materials used for energy are plants, such as corn and soy. The energy from these organisms can be burned to create heat or converted into electricity.

Advantages and disadvantages of sustainable energy.

Advantages:

  1. Energy sources will not run out.
  2. Solar panels are cheap to maintain
  3. Due to use of a stable source of energy the cost of renewable fuels does not change much.
  4. They are clean to use as there are fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
  5. Creating economic development and jobs in manufacturing, installation, and more.

Disadvantages:

  1. This energy is intermittent.
  2. The Electricity Generation Capacity is Still Not Large Enough.
  3. Can be Unreliable due to dependencies like Sun in case of solar.
  4. Low-efficiency Levels.
  5. Requires a Huge Upfront Capital Outlay.
  6. Expensive Storage Costs.

How can we use sustainable energy ?

We can use sustainable energy in our daily lives by switching to utility companies that provide access to renewable and green energy sources. Switching to renewable energy allows us to continue our lifestyles, but with the knowledge that our energy usage is clean and sustainable.

Energy conservation:

Energy can be conserved by increasing the technical efficiency of appliances, vehicles, industrial processes, and buildings. Another approach is to use fewer materials whose production requires a lot of energy, for example through better building design and recycling. Behavioral changes such as using videoconferencing rather than business flights, or making urban trips by cycling, walking or public transport rather than by car, are another way to conserve energy. Government policies to improve efficiency can include building codes, performance standards, carbon pricing, and the development of energy-efficient infrastructure to encourage changes in transport modes.
