Why should you make New Year’s Resolution and how to stick to it

New Year’s Resolution offer an opportunity for making changes and improvements required in our life. Making resolutions helps you to decide what is important for you to achieve in life. It helps to prioritize your actions to achieve your goals and to decide upon the areas where you need to concentrate more. First understand what you want to change and why you want to change it. This will help us to improve our life and live our life with purpose.

Setting up New Year’s Resolution can guide our actions and improve our lives, whether or not we make certain progress but we at least start the process of making the changes for self-improvement.

As rightly said “THE JOURNEY MATTERS MORE THAN THE DESTINATION”.

Life is just a large collection of small decisions. Working in the direction of fulfilling your resolutions will drive your life in the direction you want. Even if you don’t achieve the final destination, doesn’t matter, but at least you will start working for it which is most important.

As most of you will agree, we do make resolutions, but most difficult is to stick to our resolutions.

Let us see how we can overcome this.

  1. Limit your resolutions. Don’t set up a very high goal which you will find difficult to achieve.
  2. Focus on one goal at a time.
  3. Don’t make the same resolution which you have made earlier, but have failed to achieve.
  4. Put time into planning and make a detailed plan for goal achievement.
  5. Start with small steps.
  6. Start writing down the small steps in achieving the goal.
  7. Make a note of the obstacles which might come in your way.
  8. This will help you to stick to your resolution and overcome the problems that may come.
  9. Be patient and give yourself more time to change as it is a gradual process. It may take more time than you expect.
  10. If possible, team up with someone, maybe a friend, a family member for this
resolution / to achieve the goal.
  11. Reward yourself for small steps gained during achieving the goals.
  12. Make a firm decision about the change required, take appropriate actions and
most importantly – set a deadline and stick to it.
  13. Believe that “Life has no remote, so wake up and change it.” You are the only one
    who can do it.
